Meet Lou, a small-time thief trying to figure out a career plan in LA. He runs by chance across a freelance journalist recording a car crash and planning to sell the footage to local TV stations. Tempted by the quick buck and the adrenaline rush this line of work provides, Lou decides to learn more about it, and is ready to do whatever it takes to be the best.
Set in recent days LA, shot mostly in the night and narrated through the eyes of Lou, this movie is more of a character study (seasoned with some social commentary) than it is a thriller.
The perfect performance of Jake Gyllenhaal as the creepy loner will be a milestone in his acting career.
An excellent directorial debut by Dan Gilroy.
