Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson is a teenage girl living in Sacramento. She’s attending a catholic school and is dreaming of going to a prestigious college. Her father just lost his job so the mother struggles to make both ends meet.
The film is light-hearted but relies more than necessary on teenage drama clichés. The direction is average for my own taste, with little to no stylistic trick (maybe the director is playing it safe).
To its credit, the movie does carefully depict the contrast between the main character’s aspirations and the mundane environment she interacts with.
Props to Saoirse Ronan’s vibrant performance as the eponymous Lady Bird.
